OKWhen ROOM IN A BOX first launched in 2013, there were two core values: create unique quality furniture and ensure it's sustainable in all aspects.
We develop cardboard furniture that meet exactly those criteria. It's sustainable and strong while being aesthetically pleasing, and at the end of it's life cycle 100% of it can be recycled and returned to the raw material cycle.
Bett 2.0, our flagship product, is in thousands of homes throughout Europe and we are happy to now offer it in the USA.
From humble beginnings in Germany to an exciting fresh start in the USA, our core values remain unchanged. Our mission is to create innovative and sustainable furniture solutions to improve our customers' lives and our environment.

Our furniture concept is characterized by its circular nature. The material of our choice - corrugated cardboard - consists of 70 % post consumer recycled material with the remainder being virgin fibers sustainably and ethically sourced via methods certified by The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). At the end of it's lifecycle the cardboard furniture can be 100% recycled.
The environmental footprint for corrugated board production and processing has greatly improved in recent years. The recovery rates for the recovered paper used have been significantly increased and energy consumption substantially reduced. The raw materials for our cardboard production are sourced from the SouthEast region of the United States, corrugated in North Carolina, and manufactured into furniture parts in Virginia ensuring that transport distances can be kept short.
We sell our products exclusively online and ship them carbon neutral. For every product sold, a tree is planted by our partner Eden Reforestation Projects.
The components of our furniture are die-cut from the highest quality double walled corrugate. The use of novel processes in diemaking preserves our corrugated board during processing, resulting in impressive stability and strength and a premium finish.
To ensure there is zero waste in our manufacturing processes, we've optimized component arrangement on our cutting dies to utilize maximum board area. Scraps that accumulate during production are returned directly to the recycling loop to be recycled as raw material.

The design is simple: straightforward in form, elegant in its aesthetics and functional in use. The use of corrugated board benefits both rooms and their occupants. Corrugated board has a regulating effect on the humidity of the indoor climate. In addition, it can positively influence the acoustics of a room. This is because corrugated board has sound-absorbing properties.
The natural surfaces of strong kraft paper are warm to the touch. They are resistant and soft at the same time. In addition, they can be colored or stickered. There are no limits to the creative imagination.

Although our cardboard furniture can be recycled at the end of its life cycle, it is by no means disposable. On the contrary - each of our pieces of furniture is designed and manufactured as a fully-fledged alternative to a conventional piece of furniture. The use of strong kraft papers ensures good resistance, even to liquids. It makes them durable and long-lasting.
For example, if treated well, Bett 2.0 has a life expectancy of about 10 years. And if any component gets damaged early, it can be easily replaced without the need to dispose of the whole piece of furniture.
